Contracts (2007-02-13)

Contracts can be one of those scary and exciting things all at once. I mentioned before how this is the biggest thing for me ever, so here I am reading a nine page contract outlining fire codes, money, responsibilities, money, force majure, money, obligations, money, how to identify the playhouse on our posters and did I mention MONEY. So in the end, art has a cost. I say that jokingly and seriously. The joke is obvious, especially if you are an artist who already gave up so much to do what you love. The serious side though is that we do participate in a business and in the end businesses need to make a profit or they close. Therefore, eventually you actually have to pay for what you need. I am proud to say that we have asked the right people and assembled a great team. A lot of work is being dedicated by people who support us and they are doing it for free. I am eternally grateful to these individuals. Unfortunately to take things up to a certain level it seems impossible to get everything for free. So after carefully reading, three times, this contract and working with Alison on questions and concerns we had about it, we sat down at Diesel and agreed upon its terms. We got an additional tour of the space, pulled out our pens and signed away. At the end of that with a shaky hand I wrote a cheque to secure and guarantee our space. All of a sudden it feels more real. With all that said I am extremely excited and happy. Some congratulations were had and the sweat was wiped from the brow. Two months from our opening night we signed for our space.

Ready, Set, Life! officially opens in The Diesel Playhouse April 13, 2007 and runs for two weekends to close on April 22, 2007. Shows are 8pm Friday and Saturday. Saturday has a 5pm matinee and Sunday a 2pm matinee. There is one preview April 10.
